Gmail attachment bugsPosted by Matt Thommes on May 12, 2009 | Post type: Pain | Status: Unresolved All of a sudden, I noticed this morning that Gmail has reverted the attachments feature to the old format, where you individually select files, and no indicator displays the upload progress:
I haven't attached any files in at least a week or so, so I'm not exactly sure when this was reverted. I'm positive I've uploaded files using the new format, where you don't have to repeatedly hit "Attach another file," then "Browse" for every single attachment. I've also witnessed the upload progress indicator in action many times in the past, which is now absent when I choose a file to attach:
At first I thought this could be a Gmail "Labs" feature that somehow got turned off, but I'm pretty sure this was an official change made by the Gmail team, and not just a Labs setting. This is evident in Firefox on Windows. I've also tested in IE7/Windows, and there's a slightly different story: There's no "Browse" button displayed, which is more consistent with the new uploader recently implemented. However, when you click "Attach another file," it opens the local file browser window, lets you select a file, but once you hit "Open," it doesn't perform the inline upload that was evident with the new utility. Rather, the attachment file location just sits there:
As you can see above, there is also a weird "gap" that keeps growing every time you hit "Attach another file," then Cancel. In the end, the file never gets attached, and I can't send emails with attachments. Something is seriously broken with the attachments utility at the current time. Let us know if you're also experiencing this issue.
