I am having trouble viewing videos that are not of the wmv file type. I tried TVersity but got fed up with trying to make it work. I downloaded the K-Lite codec pack in the hopes that it would stream avi's and mp4's since the pack allowed wmp11 to play them. Still didn't help. I have xbox live on my 360 and believe I am current on all updates. I have tried viewing the videos from the video library on the dashboard and also through Windows Media Center. Still no success playing anything but wmv's. Has anyone else run into this same problem. Thank you for any help.

Erik, you may need to either set up an ethernet cable directly to your comp or request to your university to unblock(Or port forward) whichever port the 360 application uses to stream to your 360.

I am having a similar problem to Brian. I am on vista and trying to set up media sharing with my xbox 360 via WMP11. My computer finds my xbox, but my xbox does not find my computer. I have disabled all firewalls, enabled network discovery, enabled file sharing in WMP11. I also tried zune but had similar results. I am on a university network so possibly the school's router is blocking sharing between the two. any ideas?

After downgrading to service pack 2, opening every conceivable port on my pc and router, I cant get the xbox to find my computer. My pc see's the xbox. I've turned off all firewalls (Panda and windows) and talked to xbox cus. support for literally hours. Any ideas???

I have two laptops and my xbox networked via a wireless router.

I am streaming media via windows media player 11 and zune on both laptops.

When I go to video library on my xbox the xbox see’s both the windows media player 11 and zune servers from one laptop (laptop A) immediately and I can view video files without any problems through both WMP 11 and Zune.

The second laptop (laptop B) on the other hand has a problem. On the select source page of the xbox it takes about 2 minutes before laptop 2 is displayed (it shows both the WMP 11 and Zune servers) and when I try to connect to laptop 2 the xbox displays a “searching” message for about a minute then I get an error message “cannot connect to the pc. A firewall may be blocking the connection .” I have turned the firewall off on laptop 2. Can anyone offer me any advise as to what the problem might be?

Ryan, You just need to add those folders to whatever program you are streaming from. If the program can monitor the new folders on the new drive everything should work fine.

I agree with Andrew...quality speakers are now magnetically shielded. You only run into that problem if you have really old 80's speakers or less...possibly cheap home theater in a box systems as well. You get what you pay for with surround sound speakers.

Center channel speakers from most, if not all, quality speaker companies are magnetically shielded, specifically design not to interfere with other electronic components.

I finally got this sorted out thanx to this page!!! I tried and failed with both MCE encoder, and TVersity...both of which seemed way more complicated than the VERY simple WMP 11 solution above. My 360 and MCE PC were already linked via the media extender, so adding the files to the windows media player library was all I needed to do. Now I can watch all my divx downloads on my tv...wirelessly...which RULES!!!! My only beef is that the video quality suffers on the bigger (HD) screen...but that was to be expected.

You may want to look at some other clients to stream your media to your PS3. There is Tversity, Twonkymedia, Orb, Fuppes, Medialink, EyeConnect, etc.

So far I believe that Twonkymedia is the best for Windows and Medialink for Mac users. If you need some help setting them up, I have a few tutorials available to make it as painless as possible. http://blog.hillbillyhardware.net then click on the PS3 tab.

I am going to look at the Winamp Remote but I have a feeling that I am going to be very frustrated from what I am reading here. Tversity worked well earlier this year, but I have my preferences.

I agree Winamp Remote is slow, very SLOW. Im hoping that there will be some update to prevent so many glitches with playback. I think its still easier / better to just use a DIVX compatible dvd player with movies burned to DVDRW. A great player is here: Magnavox MWD7006
