If you use any other background the square edges show.

How about explaining how to REMOVE the square edges via a proper cut?

The only work around that I have been able to come up with to combat this is to colour the offending white edges the same as the background, but this is only a work around.

Surely a tool such as photoshop is not as limited as to have to use such a work around. If people want rounded edges then it should be able to be done properly so it works with any coloured background the designer chooses.
